It makes me sad to see actors who go to work, school and travel on a shoe-string budget try to put on high quality productions, only to be upstaged by a mediocre review. William Kowinski's review of the Ferndale Rep's "Amadeus" was mainly devoted to a detailed account of his discomfort and annoyance at having to drive all the way to Ferndale and back. It makes one wonder why others can drive to Ashland to review plays without a feeling of martyrdom.

Mr. Kowinski also felt the need to tell us that he had seen the show years earlier in London and therefore there were no longer any surprises. The ongoing ontological debate (Salieri v. Mozart) has ended by local proclamation. Has the rest of the world been informed?

Would that Mr. Kowinski devoted more time to writing plays. Having acted in one of his productions, I find him more skilled as a writer than as a reviewer.
