Heads up, Humboldt:
While the county's masking mandate has been lifted, Public Health is still strongly recommending masking indoors in public, social distancing and "avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces." COVID-19 is still with us, so be sure to check the protocols at event venues.

The Safety of Churches Discussed at Lifetree Café

When: Sun., March 11, 7 p.m. 2018

A rare interview with the pastor of First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs will be shown at Lifetree Café on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at 7 p.m. The program—titled “In the News: God and Guns”—provides an opportunity for participants to discuss the issue of church security and features an interview with Frank Pomeroy, the pastor of a Texas church targeted in a shooting that claimed 26 lives in November 2017. “There’s a line you don’t want to cross between being a fortress and being welcoming,” Pomeroy says. “You want people to feel welcome, but you also want them to feel safe. I’m not going to be drawn into the complacency trap again.” During the program, participants will have an opportunity to discuss what level of security—ranging from none to armed security personnel—churches should offer. Admission to the 60-minute event is free. Lifetree Café is located at Campbell Creek Connexion on the corner of Union &13 th , Arcata. Lifetree Café is a place where people gather for conversation about life and faith in a casual, comfortable setting.
