Types in Turn

The Banana Slug moves more slowly
than the hour hand on the hall clock.
It sees no need to rush things.
You may find it approximately where
it was an hour ago.

The Steller's Jay,
on the other hand, is all atwitch with
motion, alert to its flighty neighbors,
paying little attention to the naked snail.

The cognoscenti say they both contribute
some useful service to this ailing world,
but I can apply this to only one of them
at a time, now one, now the other.
Some days it's the slug, others the jay.
