Heads up, Humboldt:
While the county's masking mandate has been lifted, Public Health is still strongly recommending masking indoors in public, social distancing and "avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces." COVID-19 is still with us, so be sure to check the protocols at event venues.

Visiting Artist Aaron Hughes

When: Wed., Nov. 16, 1 p.m. 2016

College of the Redwoods is pleased to host Chicago based visiting artist Aaron Hughes. Hughes will perform an intimate version of his project TEA in the CR Art Gallery on Wednesday, November 16th at 1:00 p.m. He will also do a public lecture about his artistic practice at 4:00 p.m. CA 139. The TEA performance is a ticketed event with very limited seating. Tickets will be available through College of the Redwoods Veteran’s Services. Please call or email for tickets, (707) 476-4110 or [email protected] Aaron Hughes is an artist, teacher, organizer, and Iraq War veteran, whose work seeks out poetics, connections, and moments of beauty with the goal of constructing new languages and meanings out of personal and collective traumas. He uses these new languages and meanings to create projects that attempt to de-construct systems of dehumanization and persecution. TEA is an ongoing dialogue that has traversed a variety of landscapes, from the tea sipped on a Chicago sidewalk, to a quaint coffee shop, to a cage in Guantanamo Bay, to a motor pool in Iraq. Hughes states “Tea is not only a favored drink but a shared moment that transcends cultural divides and systems of oppression. That is not meant as a clichéd utopian statement, but as a reminder of a shared humanity that is so often overlooked.” Hughes is a member of The Dirty Canteen art collective (www.dirtycanteen.com) and has artwork featured in the current exhibition in the College of the Redwoods Art Gallery entitled The Dirty Canteen: Contemporary Art Made by Military Veterans. The gallery hours are Mondays and Wednesdays 10:00 am to 5:30 pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays 11:45 am to 5:30 pm and by appointment. Please contact (707) 476-4559 for more information, or visit the CR gallery website at www.redwoods.edu/artgallery/
