Heads up, Humboldt:
While the county's masking mandate has been lifted, Public Health is still strongly recommending masking indoors in public, social distancing and "avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces." COVID-19 is still with us, so be sure to check the protocols at event venues.

Zero Business Waste

When: Thu., Jan. 21, 6-8 p.m. 2016

Zero Waste Humboldt (ZWH) will host representatives from Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. and Fetzer Vineyards to discuss how they achieved international recognition for their Zero Waste “best business practices” during a public forum at the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center, Thursday, January 21, from 6-8 P.M. The presentation, entitled “How to Achieve Zero Waste for your Business,” is the second session from Zero Waste Humboldt in its 2015-16 Zero Waste Solutions Series. The January 21st event will kick off with an open reception featuring local beer, wine and hors d’ oeuvres prepared by Humboldt County vendors. Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. was the first Platinum level Zero Waste facility certified by the U.S. Zero Waste Business Council. Fetzer Vineyards is the first winery in California to operate on 100% green energy, as well as being the first winery to receive Zero Waste certification from the U.S. Zero Waste Business Council. The featured speakers are Cheri Chastain, the Sustainability Manager for Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. and Josh Prigge, the Director of Regenerative Development at Fetzer Vineyards. Chastain led Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. to become the first U.S. business to accomplish Zero Waste. She is Chair of the Brewer’s Association’s Sustainability Subcommittee and a board member of the U.S. Zero Waste Business Council. Prigge directed Fetzer Vineyards’ award-winning commitment to restorative business practices. He recently returned from the Paris climate change talks representing Fetzer as a sustainability leader in the wine industry. With the support of the local business community and more than 100 volunteers, Zero Waste Humboldt has organized an ongoing series of videos and expert presentations to introduce Humboldt community and business leaders to solutions for a variety of waste issues. The 2015-16 Zero Waste Solutions Series is sponsored by Lost Coast Brewery and Coast Central Credit Union. Event supporters include Monument Mountain Vineyards and The Footprint Foundation. A $10 donation is requested at the door to support Zero Waste Humboldt’s activities and services. For more information [email protected] .
