I commend the Journal for its coverage of Umpqua Bank’s CEO Ray Davis’ recent state of the economy talk (“Short Stories,” Nov. 13). You were the only member of the local media to do so. You did the greater public a service by letting them know of a different voice.

Instead of reading yet another article about the “bail-out” being a money-loser, you presented the contrary views of a successful member of the business community who sees the so-called “bail-out” as a long-term benefit to the taxpayer’s pocketbook, not just more money thrown down a hole.
