Humboldt County has a wealth of organized summer activities for young people. Get out there and enjoy. Many require pre-registration, and scholarships may be available — call for details.


General & Multi Activities

Coastal Connections Summer Camp. Aug. 22-26, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Humboldt Coastal Nature Center, 220 Stamps Lane, Manila. This week-long day camp program for ages 8-10 will connect participants to the diverse coastal habitats of the Samoa Peninsula. While exploring coastal ecosystems between the Humboldt Bay and Pacific Ocean, campers will record observations and reflect on their experiences through art and creative writing. In addition to science, art and cultural history, this program will emphasize coastal stewardship, eco-friendly lifestyles and active living. Summer Youth Workshops. Mondays-Fridays, July 25-29. Arcata Playhouse, 1251 Ninth St. Classes for ages 6–9: Clowning for Kids, 9 a.m.–noon: A funny adventure into clowning. They will create their own original clown characters and skits and learn to work in cooperative teams to create their own original pieces. Great Adventures: Creative Drama, 12:30 – 3:30 p.m.: Kids will learn acting skills and learn to perform, as a whole group, a physical theater adventure story they write and create themselves.
